BlackBerry wins preliminary injunction against Typo iPhone keyboard

According to a New York Times report, Canadian handset maker BlackBerry has won a preliminary injunction against the iPhone keyboard manufactured by Ryan Seacrest's Typo Products LLC.
The preliminary injunction against the Typo iPhone keyboard was issued by a U. S. District Court judge for the Northern District of California; and it upholds BlackBerry's copyright-infringement claims against the $99 iPhone keyboard manufactured Ryan Seacrest-backed Typo Products startup.
The Typo iPhone keyboard is BlackBerry-style keyboard attachment for Apple's iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S handsets. Claiming that the Typo product violates BlackBerry's patents and designs used in the keyboard-equipped Q10 smartphone, BlackBerry's lawyer Kevin Johnson said at a March 21 hearing that the keyboards for the BlackBerry Q10 handset are "unmistakable."
Earlier, when BlackBerry filed the lawsuit against Typo Products in January, chief legal officer Steve Zipperstein had asserted: "This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry's iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design."
In a ruling in favor of BlackBerry, Judge William Orrick said that issued a preliminary injunction against the Typo iPhone keyboard, saying that the copyright claims put forth by BlackBerry against the Typo product will likely to hold up in court. As a result of the injunction, the sales, import, and marketing of the Typo iPhone keyboard in the U. S. has been banned till the copyright-infringement matter is resolved.
